Hollywood has lined up a great list of movies for audiences of all types. This year we have superhero movies, action blockbusters, and an entire range of indies. But the most exciting of all is the number of animated movies coming out of the industry this year.?
Last year was rough due to the pandemic, hence animation studios have been itching to release their latest films straight to cinemas all over the world. Not being able to watch the latest movies in a theater was a major blow to all fans. Unless you have something like the Spectrum TV Essentials, it can be impossible to get a better selection of movies. But things are finally looking up.?
To get started with the new year, here’s a list of the most anticipated animated movies of 2022.
Turning Red

Turning Red is one of Pixar animation studios’ 2 movies to be released this year. This is exciting news for all Pixar fans as the studio very rarely releases more than one film in a year. This movie is engrossed in brilliant animation and a beautiful story that has lessons for both children and adults.?
The movie revolves around a young girl named Mei who turns into a giant red panda whenever she gets too excited. I know what you’re thinking, it sounds a little over the top. But that couldn’t be further from the truth, it’s a movie that offers great insights into what puberty is like on adolescents and its sharp references are often mind-boggling.?
It’s a great watch for children and adults alike, and with Pixar, you know you’re in for a treat.?
Hotel Transylvania: Transformania?
Starring: Brain Hull, Jim Gaffigan, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Katheryn Hahn, and Steve Buscemi.?
Hotel Transylvania is the fourth film of a fantastic franchise. It’s about a vampire who runs a hotel for monsters. It’s the funniest, sweetest, and most loveable all-around film of the year.?
In this movie, Drac and his crew come to terms with humans by understanding them much more deeply. A transforming ray turns them into humans and then puts them face to face against their fiercest enemies. A fun-to-watch family film that will make you laugh and cry.?
With a fantastic cast and amazing story, there’s nothing that can go wrong with this animation sensation.?
The Bob’s Burgers Movie?
Starring: Kristen Schaal, H. Jon Benjamin, John Roberts, Dan Mintz, Eugene Mirman, and Larry Murphy.?
This movie is an adaptation of the long-running Emmy-winning series, Bob’s Burgers. This family comedy is a great watch for anyone who wants to have a fun time. The story starts off with a huge rupture in the water main that creates a sinkhole right in front of Bob’s Burgers. This ruins the entire family’s plans for a successful summer selling burgers.?
While mom and dad are busy trying to keep the business afloat, the kids are busy solving a mystery that could save the family business. It’s a great watch for anyone who’s a fan of the cartoon series and wants to see their favorite family have an adventure.?
Lightyear?
Starring: Chris Evans, Taika Waititi, James Brolin, Peter Sohn, Keke Palmer, Uzo Aduba, and Isiah Witlock Jr.?
Remember the other Pixar movie we were just talking about? This is it. Lightyear is creating a buzz amongst all audiences. Its animation is by far one of Pixar’s best works, especially its shots of outer space.?
It’s no surprise who this film is about. It’s the infamous Buzz Lightyear’s origin story. However, this film doesn’t revolve around the toy. It revolves around the real-life person who inspired the toy. It’s the original Buzz Lightyear story and how he came to be the astronaut we all fell in love with in Toy Story.?
Lightyear was first announced in 2020 at the height of the pandemic and we’ve all been waiting for it since. As soon as Chris Evans made the cast as the voice actor for Buzz, it was all but assured to be a hit.
Pinocchio?
Starring: Ewan McGregor, Tilda Swinton, Cate Blanchett, Christoph Waltz, David Bradley, John Turturro, and Tom Waits.?
This cast alone is reason enough to watch this animated film. Pinocchio isn’t really a remake of the Disney classic we’re all so aware of. It’s more of an adaptation to the 1883 novel of Pinocchio.?
This film has been directed by Guillermo del Toro who’s famous for Pacific Rim and the Hell Boy series. He’s a fantastic animator and this reflects on the movie as well with its creative designs and clay animations. It’s truly a must-watch for people of all ages.?
